ECM System for Archives: Federally
Funded R&D
Center
A federally funded research and development center
(FFRDC) sought to adapt its database and paper-based
archives to the technological environment of the
21st century. The center needed to develop an electronic
document management system that could capture,
disseminate and store knowledge in a usable and
functional manner, as well as respect the security
restrictions of various documents. The center was
also concerned with creating a system that was
equal to its peers.
KiF
Solution:
Knowledge inForm’s ECM Consulting Services conducted a benchmarking survey of other FFRDCs,
government agencies, and private corporations to
determine how those institutions manage their archives
and the ever-changing technological environment
of the 21st century. After reviewing the survey
results, KiF developed a series of 3 Archives Models
and an evaluation process for the FFRDC to determine
which model best suited its customers and implementation
ability.
